Providing Safety Leadership in the Field

Problem:
When a contractor provides workforce support to an operation, the safety culture of the operator has to be taken into serious consideration. Danos employees are affected every day by the safety standards of the customer. We were experiencing a number of safety incidents at a particular location and recognized that changes were imperative to protect our employees. The operator was going through a number of changes, downsizing and settling internal conflicts. The whole culture of safety needed to be rebuilt.

Solution:
Danos management and safety team met with the operator to discuss the issues and concerns regarding operational safety. The two teams made a conscious effort to utilize the best resources from each organization to redefine and put in place safety procedures that would increase overall safety of the operation. Danos devoted a safety specialist to the operation for three months to observe, coach and support employees in their daily duties. The assigned account manager increased the number of visits to the operation and communication with the customer.

Result:
Danos employees at the location have gone multiple years incident free and continue to embrace and adhere to the processes and procedures that maintain a healthy safety culture. The Danos team at the location is now a proactive group that takes a leadership role in safety initiatives and issues. The culture of the whole location, including the customer’s employees, has changed into one where safety is a value to everyone.

Making Production Support Quick and Painless

Problem:
Danos was chosen as sole contractor to provide all production support personnel to a major oil and gas operator. The challenge was to take over provision of service with no incidents and no interruption to the operator or operations.

Solution:
A transition of this scale requires focus on many factors, and a detailed plan for communication with the customer and the affected employees is paramount. We established a team representing all relevant groups at Danos, developed a detailed plan and timeline, then proactively communicated with everyone involved.

Result:
Danos took over providing service—including provision of 150 personnel in 30 days. The transition was completed incident-free with no interruption in production or operations.

Building Customer Trust Amidst Obstacles

Problem:
Danos Construction Division was awarded a scraper trap project involving a number of major customers. The scope of work called for the expertise of our construction and fabrication teams, with deliverables including a 20” pipeline, new launcher and receiver, skids, a 14’ x 75’ deck extension (along with all associated piping), I&E and testing, demolition, commissioning and the supply of all marine transportation, housing, meals and communications for the project.

As the project kicked off, the team faced a number of challenges, including housing issues, limited crane capacity, complex rigging and scaffolding and long radius 180 degree piping and short shut in time.

Solution:
To overcome the crane capacity limitations, the deck extension was built in multiple pieces to stay under load capacity. The skids were fully assembled in the shop and then disassembled for transport offshore and installation. With the large amount of complex rigging involved, a team was organized among the various customers and multiple meetings were held to discuss best and strategic rigging practices for the particular project. To resolve the limited housing issues, temporary housing was brought in specifically for the project. The job also required extensive and project specific job planning and coordination with multiple customers during the shut in to eliminate down time.  

Result:
The project was performed incident-free and the install of the project was completed ahead of schedule reducing the shut in time by 20 percent.  The Danos team received an excellent evaluation from all customers involved.
