Danos GIVES: New Orleans Mission

On Friday, February 15, the Danos Foundation awarded the New Orleans Mission with a grant of $5,000. Founded in 1989, the New Orleans Mission provides shelter, food and spiritual guidance to a growing number of broken individuals in the region. Today, the Mission is the largest faith-based private service provider to those suffering from addiction, food insecurity and homelessness.

The Mission's strategy is to rescue people from physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking, illness, financial hardship and addictions; strengthen the recovery efforts of the people seeking support; and foster their successful re-engagement into society as healthy, disciplined, skilled people ready to lead a sustainable, productive and purpose-driven life.

In Louisiana there are an estimated 3,305 homeless individuals, and Louisiana ranks third in the country regarding food insecurity. In a year, the Mission serves approximately 2740 people, providing 350,000 hot meals. Their shelter can sleep 300 women and men on a regular night and can sleep 400 on a freezing night. In addition to food and shelter, the Mission offers a discipleship recovery program, showing men and women how to live a life of service to others and become a productive member of society.
