LaSTEM 2022 Annual Summit

On February 8, the Louisiana Board of Regents held the LaSTEM (Louisiana Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) 2022 Annual Summit in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jessica Stegall, human resources specialist, and Travon Williams, deepwater production operator, were invited to represent Danos in a panel discussion, “Responding to Workforce Development Needs Through LCTCS’ (Louisiana Community and Technical College System) Industry – Education Partnerships.” Jessica and Travon, along with other panelists, spoke about how industry and education members are working together to fuel workforce development.
As program administrator for the Danos On-the-Job Learning Program, Jessica provided insight into the Danos partnerships with the technical community colleges which creates development opportunities Danos can provide students as they begin their careers. She spoke about the coordinated effort that is part of the program structure which offers a broad range of experiences with hands-on tasks and exposure to day-to-day operations. Jessica described how she works directly with Danos customers and partnering schools to ensure the interns are meeting goals and that the programs are aligned with industry needs. The audience also heard from Jessica about the level of support Danos provides to entry level candidates as an added measure of ensuring their safety and success.
Travon, a graduate of Fletcher Technical Community College’s Integrated Production Technologies Program, joined the Danos team in an entry level position where he gained industry experience working on an offshore platform. Travon described how his time enrolled at Fletcher and the opportunity with Danos provided him with a career progression path. He talked about the significance of critical thinking for his job and the ability to apply learnings from his education in the workplace. Travon emphasized the importance of keeping everyone safe in the offshore environment which is strengthened by the extensive training he recieves. He also added that teamwork is an essential part of proper completion of job tasks.
