Scaling New Heights: Inside the World of Ben Alexander, Rope Access Program Manager

Meet Ben Alexander, Danos’ rope access program manager and trainer. His journey in the energy industry began in 2015. Ben's enthusiasm and passion for his work have taken him from a scaffold builder to his current role as a Level 3 rope access technician while managing Danos’ rope access program.
In 2019, Ben joined Danos as a scaffold builder, initially drawn to the idea of being a fitter until he discovered rope access. Fascinated by the work and techniques, Ben decided to pursue rope access. To become a Level 1 technician, trainees undergo a five-day class and hands-on assessment. Advancement in rope access has distinct levels, each with its own criteria, exercise and assessments by the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT). Technicians must hone his or her craft for six months before training for the next level. Ben is now a Level 3 technician and oversees Danos’ rope access program and training.
Ben's diverse experience in fields such as pipefitting, painting, petrochemicals and construction has enhanced his expertise. He emphasizes the advantage of being a multi-craft individual in the field, recognizing the value in diversified skill sets.
As a rope access trainer, Ben enjoys sharing his knowledge and experiences with others. Training sessions adhere to rigid guidelines outlined by SPRAT, ensuring comprehensive education. The goal is for trainees to grasp the essential elements required by SPRAT certification.
“I enjoy teaching and really enjoy what I do with rope access. I’m grateful for the things it has done for me career-wise. I enjoy sharing that and showing others what I’ve learned,” says Ben
Ben's journey has taken him to various project sites and built strong relationships with key customers like Kinder Morgan, Exxon, Woodside, Chevron and Talos. His recent involvement with a BP project at Shenzi highlights his expertise and the trust clients place in his capabilities, as the customer specifically requested him for the job.
Ben’s journey demonstrates the development opportunities available in the oil and gas industry. His commitment to his craft, paired with his enthusiasm for teaching and helping others grow in their careers, makes him a valuable member of Team Danos.
