Grating Can Be a Real Challenge

Here at Danos, we like to solve BIG challenges.
Recently, Danos Safety Specialist Mathew Bascle was asked to join the Center of Offshore Safety (COS) committee, which is a part of the American Petroleum Institute (API). When asked about his plans on the committee, he responded with the below:
"Recently, I was asked to join the Center for Offshore Safety (COS) committee, which is a part of the American Petroleum Institute (API), to discuss grating issues across the Gulf of Mexico and our industry. I traveled to Houston to meet with the rest of the committee members. As representatives of oil companies and contracting companies, we are attempting to come together, learn from one another and assist one another in current practices," said Bascle.
Currently, there are no industry-wide safe work practices or recommendations when it comes to inspections, installations or replacements in our industry. Operators and contractors must use their best judgment or company-specific guidelines to determine when and how to address and handle grating issues. The committee wants to bring together personnel from multiple operators and contract companies to draft something that API can put into the hands of everyone across the Gulf.
"We want to find a way to get away from a guessing game," says Mathew.
